Dr. Rachakonda Prabhu is a renowned physician residing in Las Vegas, NV.

Dr. Rachakonda Prabhu is a renowned physician residing in Las Vegas, NV. His distinguished career has seen him organize and found several institutions such as Red Rock Medical Group, El Dorado Medical Center and The Sleep Center of Nevada. He practices internal medicine as well as pulmonary and sleep medicine. Dr. Rachakonda Prabhu is also the first physician in Nevada with training and experience in Laser Bronchoscopy. He practices Critical Care Medicine and teaches Residents and Fellows in University Medical Center and Valley Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Prabhu was educated at R. G. Kar Medical College in Calcutta, India followed by several externships with one being at Mercy Hospital in Denver, CO. He interned and was chief resident at Mt. Sinai City Hospital Center in Elmhurst, NY from 1975-1977 before completing his fellowship at Mt. Sinai in 1979.

As a doctor who practices pulmonary medicine, Dr. Prabhu has focused on asthma, lung disease, and undiagnosed sleep apnea.

There are approximately 29.5 million people in the United States that are living with undiagnosed sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a dangerous affliction even when it’s diagnosed. When it goes undiagnosed, sleep apnea has extremely severe consequences such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart attack, and even sudden cardiac death. In his career, Dr. Prabhu has seen patients in the ICU because of complications from diabetes that stemmed from undiagnosed sleep apnea.

The Sleep Center of Nevada is one the largest centers in the nation that focuses on sleep medicine. Dr. Prabhu also teaches medical students at University of Nevada School of Medicine. He also teaches residents and fellows who will specialize in pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine. Dr. Prabhu also holds speaking engagements about sleep and the study of sleep.

In March of 2018, he was among other doctors who will be examining NFL players for lung problems. Players came from many different teams to be a part of this medical group that includes pulmonary doctors, sleep medicine doctors, and cardiologists. Dr. Prabhu performed pulmonary and sleep medicine evaluations along with the team, and Dr. Arthur Roberts, the President of Living Heart Foundation, said afterward that he had simply never seen such compassionate staff and amazing teamwork.

Dr. Prabhu has been recognized by many political figures including President Obama and President George W. Bush. He’s met with President George H. W. Bush, President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev. His work is so honored and revered that he was invited to President Obama’s second inauguration in 2008. In 2018 he was selected as a señor of distinction for his dedication and contribution to his local community.
